[00:00:07] Darek Thomas, Darektor's Cut Tom and David, thank you for your time today, I appreciate it Pleasure So David, quick question, I couldn't help but think So when it comes to that poster While I know you've had bigger roles Why is this movie so special? It's got a core that's unmatched It's a life-changing movie Why has it deeply affected millions of people? I had to ask you why I had you You mean Interstellar? Yes, yes Wow, look Christopher Nolan literally
[00:00:35] I think we'll go down Maybe as the best director ever To walk the planet I think that The fact that that film has stood the test of time To the degree that it has Is indicative of how his mind works Like I say, I didn't even know what film I was in I only had my sides when I was doing that film So yeah, I sit aghast as a fan of the film Yeah, so I have to say I wish my dad was alive Because he would have loved Treasure Island
[00:01:04] This is a show that so many people Of different age levels can appreciate Tom, I have to ask you Your characters I mean, I have I can't memorize a sentence in my real life Your character's ability to memorize the Bible To dance To memorize maps Does your character's ability push you as an actor? Because he does so much He's responsible for so much Yeah, definitely I thought You know, he has this memory So that in any situation he's in
[00:01:34] He's taking in a lot And he's sort of Really internalizing the mannerisms And the The ways these characters are behaving Especially when he's on the ship To assimilate Into this new context quicker And also, yeah It was a lot of fun to play a character With that sort of Ability Because it meant like I'd go home And I'd sketch a map And, you know I had no excuse Not to be completely Off the book with my lines Because that would have been You are both
[00:02:04] Just so terrific Jim and Long John Silver Their iconic complex relationship It teeters between Father and son And dangerous adversary How do the two of you Build that tension And camaraderie, right? It's just so much fun To see unfold on screen I think it helps That I like Tom a lot So that We didn't have to Sort of manufacture That chemistry So to speak But, you know The really fun thing Is that For me anyway As the character
[00:02:33] I play You never know Whether he is being Purely paternal Or actually predatory In any given moment And sometimes The truth is He was being both One surprised him And the other Was always his intention But that I think Is what's fascinating About the relationships Because let's face it Most people know That there is treasure
[00:03:01] That they are going to get to And in some way They're going to acquire The treasure So it's the journey To the treasure Rather than the acquisition Of the treasure That is the key thing And so In order for that To make for an Interesting narrative The relationships That are being formed On the path To that treasure Have to be the thing That is keeping The audience interested And I think That not knowing That unsettled feeling The same feeling You get standing on a ship Is I think What this relationship
[00:03:31] Feels like Especially for Jim probably I will end with this The movie Digger Has polarized people They love it They hate it I personally believe I thank god We have movies Like this today When you guys Make a classic Or remake a classic Like Treasure Island Are you ever Concerned about What the audience May think I mean obviously As actors You're always Concerned about Your performance But when it's An epic classic Like this Does it carry A little more Weight to it I've done quite a few Things that have been
[00:04:01] Remakes Great expectations I forgot Yeah Yes Yeah And I think Certainly it's in the Back of your mind Maybe But as soon as you Sort of get into The world that's Being created And we had A really fresh Spin on things In so many Different aspects That really Distances yourself From that sort of Original source material And I didn't go back And reread the book I remembered reading It a lot as a kid And I sort of More just
[00:04:30] Amassed myself In different things At the time Like I think We both watched Master and Commander And I watched Like Dangerous Liaisons And that sort of To get into That sort of time Like Barry Lyndon Those kind of things And then It's sort of Existing in that world And you know You know what it is But you also You know You're bringing Something fresh to it And that brings An assurance That yeah We're doing something new And we don't have to Worry about how it's perceived I think
[00:04:59] As an actor As a storyteller You have to Make peace With the fact That you're never Going to please Everyone And trying To do that Actually is antithetical To making something Worthwhile So you know Once you Have that Realization You just go And try and tell The story The best you can You're both terrific And thank you For this great show Have a wonderful day Okay Thank you You too Bye bye
